THE OSBORNE

Thomas Osborne began the construction of this rusticated Romanesque Revival and Italian Renaissance Palazzo-style building in 1883 with architect James Edward Ware. An array of skilled artisans also worked on the historic Byzantine lobby with contributions by sculptor Augustus Saint-Gaudens, muralist John LaFarge, and Tiffany Studios. Original plans for the building included "a porte-cochre, a billiard room, a florist, a resident doctor and druggist and on the roof, a lawn for playing croquet." Diagonally across from Carnegie Hall, which was completed in 1891, and opposite the remarkable Alwyn Court cooperative on West 58th Street, The Osborne has a unique position among New York's finest landmarks.

THE APARTMENT
