"Landlord groups blasted the decision, saying it ignored the board’s own recommendations. One of the board’s reports this year recommended an increase between 2 and 2.75 percent on one-year leases and between 2.4 and 5.75 percent on two-year leases, though these ranges are intended as a jumping-off point."

"Tenant groups called for, at the least, a rent freeze. There were also proposals to roll back rents.



“The rent freeze — even though it’s tremendously hard to get the board to do — a lot of tenants see it as a win, but a moderate win,” said Leah Goodridge, tenant attorney at Mobilization for Justice. “People would say, okay, but I still have to pay rent — like, this isn’t a win.”
