Commission Splits

I started working on a deal today with a team which has 2 agents. Since I am just one agent they proposed the commission be split 3 ways, 2/3 for them and 1/3 for me. What do you think of this arrangement?

You didn't clearly define your roles. However, I presume that the "team" is the listing agent and you are the buyer's broker. Is that correct?

If so, the listing side should receive half (and they split it between themselves according to their arrangement) and you, the buyer' broker, receives half.

Especially in today's market, the listing agents should not be putting their hand in your pocket. You've earned your half of the commission.

This is ridiculous. You’re bringing a ready and willing renter to the table. You get half they split the rest. An alternative is to have your client sign a commission agreement; then take the 1/3 as a cobroke fee. But if it was me...I’d demand the 1/2 in that case as well. ;). But hey/ that’s just my way. Regardless- you take your fair cut!
