Description
The Hotel des Artistes is a full service cooperative just down the street from Lincoln Center with amenities not often available in pre-war buildings. These include a swimming pool, two workout rooms, a squash court and a serene high-walled roof deck. There is an elevator operator and concierge service. Residents are also afforded room service from the Leopard at des Artistes as well as discounted dining and use of a private dining room.
Built in 1917, the Hotel des Artistes is a majestic 18 story building with a Gothic-style facade featuring charming gargoyles of painters, sculptors and writers. Designed by architect George Mort Pollard, the landmarked building has been home to many of the famed and illustrious, including Noel Coward, Isadora Duncan, writer Fannie Hurst, NYC Mayor John V. Lindsay, Alexander Woollcott, Norman Rockwell, and Joel Grey! The Hotel des Artistes is the most prominent building on a lovely tree-lined block off Central Park, often referred to as Artists Row and listed as the "West 67th Street Artists' Colony Historic District" in the "National Register of Historic Places."
