2nd Ave Subway Business Fundraiser Thursday
A: As discussed 18 months ago here, the 2nd avenue subway construction brings with it both positives and negatives. The clear negative is the disruption in foot traffic to businesses right on the front lines of construction work. As a 10-yr upper east sider, you get to know the business owners of your favorite restaurants, and DELIZIA on 92nd & 2nd is up there on my Pizza & Italian list. Back in November 2006, I posted this update on the 2nd avenue subway project:
What To Expect During Build: Streets to be completely demolished during the boring process and tunnel build. Local businesses on 2nd Avenue will have a rough time and will most likely go out of business temporarily with some type of city support program kicking into effect. A few years of loud noises, construction barriers, air pollution, and big time machines.Then I get this with my order:
Please try to support the businesses that are hurting because of construction barriers, work, noise, and dust between 90th & 94th Streets on 2nd avenue! Blondie's is a great sports bar right in the middle of the action and is holding a fundraiser this Thursday June 5th from 6:00 - 8:00PM.

Why? If or when the 2nd avenue subway finally gets running, their businesses will boom, either that or they'll sell out to yet another Starbucks, bank or condo.

The notion of fundraising a for-profit enterprise is hilarious. They should issue you a piece of the company with your donation so you can participate in their windfall when the construction ends.
