LOST: Time Loop Theory

Posted by Noah Rosenblatt on April 25, 2008 at 10.59 AM

It's my birthday tomorrow and so today is a day off! I kind of wanted to talk about something totally unrelated to the economy and Manhattan real estate for once, but still provoke some thinking. So, I wanted to talk about this LOST theory that someone told me about.

WARNING: This theory is just some guy's, (Jason Hunter) opinion on what is going on in the show LOST. For me, this is it. While I don't think it spoils anything, some people may want to continue watching the show with as little info as possible, so they can figure it out on their own. So, if you are one of these people, you may not want to read this.

Below is a visual courtesy of TimeLoopTheory.com, here are the links if you want to understand this theory. It's pretty damn cool.

That's it, that's the end of the story. Anyone know a physicist to elaborate on this theory, and where the holes are?

So then why can't they kill themselves if they are off the island in a flash forward?

ok, based on the theory, the ORIGINAL TIMELINE went on to the year 2007 before Ben went back in time to 1996 and killed Dharma folk in the purge episode.

So, this NEW TIMELINE MUST be preserved up until 2007. Since the plane crash was in 2004, in the NEW TIMELINE after Ben went back and changed things, (the survivors of the crash that we know as characters on the island), never originally crashed! They MUST survive until at least the original timeline of 2007! So, they cant kill themselves before that.

Did I explain that right? Its all messed up, so any physicists out there can elaborate on this?

And I thought this subprime stuff was confusing, my head is spinning.

All I can say is, Happy Birthday!!! Sorry, never was good at physics.

Happy Birthday, Noah. Now I know why I like you so much. I am LOST junkie. Your timeline is making my head hurt. Once I figure out my route for showing a dozen widely scattered homes in 95 degree heat today, I will try to assimilate this. Too deep for the caffeine-challenged.

Hey Kris!!!! Long time! Hopefully Ill see you in SF again soon.

Anyway, just know this. The original timeline above is how the universe MUST unravel eventually. It cant be changed or the smoke monster will course correct! Ben is travelling back and forth through time.

Sick theory. Read the whole timeline and you'll get it.

If you think of it as parallel universes, intersected by worm holes or something like that, it works. Time can't be suspended per se other than in relation to the space time continuum, in other words, any suspension is a figment of our imagination if they are to intersect again. The other issue is that our physical aging I guess would not halt but that of the perceived reality would. But to the point that these conflicting realities could simultaneously exist is certainly plausible. I experience alternate realities all the time on the red line.....great post Noah!
