The Cielo Condo
A: Screw it. I've been trying to make this perfect for days now and I now realize that I'll just have to wait and get better as I go. Here is my first shot at UrbanDigs investigative reporting on the streets of Manhattan Real Estate. The idea is to bring to you first-hand reports of new developments, contractors, real estate experts and their advice, top performers, etc.. A big thank you to my colleague and fellow contributor Christine Toes for helping me film and research this new development in the Upper East Side. It is our first time with this so consider it a beta test as we learn to fine tune the filming, video editing, volume and mic issues, and especially my very fast talking. Sorry about that in advance! I'll slow it down for future clips! Enjoy, and as always your thoughts/ideas are appreciated. If you would like to see my take on a specific real estate topic, drop me a line via email.

Noah - For the first time out.. Impressive. I liked how you put it all together. Very informative and alot of details were noted. Just at the very end - standing on the street, you got "lost" in the noise. But overall - a great clip! Congrats!

This is what the internet (and YouTube) are so great for. It gives us live, almost real time, direct feed straight into what's going on in the marketplace. Noah, is anyone else doing this? I don't think so, congrats on the innovation.
I second the lapel mic - it will work wonders on the noisy NYC streets. Just be careful it doesn't "rub" on your clothes and you don't knock it with your hands as it can produce a loud grating feedback.
If possible, look towards integrating the DVD in-house footage you might use, and then do a talk over with the lapel mic when back at home in the "editing suite". It will polish it up that little bit more.
All in all though, i can't knock this, it's great to see someone really using multimedia in this way, to bring some innovative and interesting snippets and thoughts, live and direct from the street!
Keep it up, please make this a weekly/fortnightly/monthly feature if possible!
PS i didn't think you talked too fast! It's snappy and to the point, and if we miss something we can always watch it back again! :)

Dave - I got to say I look forward to hearing your feedback. It is so helpful to what I am trying to do. Thx for the encouragement and I'll do my best to get a video clip up every other week for now, and hopefully more often in the near future. I just need to focus on some clients now and until I get help things will be slower than i would like it to be. I'll still try to get thoughts up everyday though in a post here on urbandigs.

Great start! For a non-AFTRA guy, you look good and none of the usual deer-in-the-headlights looks. From a pro in the film biz, a few hints:
Get a camera with better image stabilization - there's a constant drift which distracts from the overall, and the opening pan down the building weaves (partially from no image stabilization, partially from vertical pans being a lot - repeat lot - harder than non-pros realize) - if you really want to do shots like that (and they are good to set the scene), perhaps get a small fluid-head tripod (friction-head not much smoother than handheld) - yeah, that's overkill and some $, but you've got a good idea.... (although a better camera with stabilization will probably fix that more than enough and tripods are such a drag to get in and out of cabs)
86 the moving ghost graphics - eye candy like that was invented to cover bad content, and you don't need that - it's distracting from the views of the units
Agree that you need lapel mic - and also that the VO should be recorded with the same mic onto video (not direct into computer) so that difference in sound quality is not quite so obvious - or else do some simple EQ in the video edit
Keep up the good work!
